01 · SPINDLE SPEEDRPM = Vc × 1000 ÷ (π × D)

Vc is cutting speed in m/min and D is tool diameter in millimetres.

02 · FEED RATEFeed = RPM × teeth × chip load

Feed is calculated in mm/min from the exact tooth count and chip load per tooth.

03 · ENGAGEMENTRadial % = WOC ÷ D × 100

Width of cut is checked against the tool diameter before engagement and milling MRR are shown.

04 · MATERIAL REMOVALMRR = WOC × DOC × feed

Milling uses the rectangular cut volume. Drilling uses the circular hole area × feed.

Recommendation assumptions

Short, rigid tool stick-out; secure workholding; a reasonably rigid CNC machine; sharp geometry suited to the material; controlled runout; and adequate coolant, air or chip evacuation. Tool steel is assumed annealed or pre-hardened, cast iron means general grey iron, titanium approximates Ti-6Al-4V, and engineering plastics represent common machinable unfilled grades.
